Series of 18 monoprints, 50 x 70 cm each

This series of monoprints were produced using fragments of writing from a large-scale scroll drawing, "All I Can Think About, 2024" in which I practiced automatic writing in response to personal trauma. Within the written work, I explored metaphors and concepts that allowed me to talk about my personal experiences and feelings in a safe, distanced way rather than writing a direct documentation of events.

A common motif that would occur was birds and the idea of predator vs prey. From the ideas within the piece, I began drawing figurative representations which grew from the scroll itself, into "sketch monoprints" driven by a sense of urgency to capture a moment of feeling.

I am influenced by Tracy Emin’s confessional approach to capturing the immediacy of thought and emotion through monoprint. This has ignited my own experimentation and propelled me towards expanding my personal metaphors into a tactile drawing method.

I developed these stages into intentional, larger scale compositions where I combined fragments of my writing alongside drawings showing birds feeding a human head, or eating human flesh. I was interested in showing the duality of nature, by flipping the perspectives of prey and predator between human and animal.
